Sometimes it is easier to answer this question by saying what hypnosis is NOT. Hypnosis is not a mysterious trance-like state as depicted in Hollywood in which the hypnotist's "victims" have lost complete control physically and mentally.

Hypnosis IS a state of deep physical and mental relaxation during which the individual is completely aware of everything going on around them. Being deeply engrossed in a book or a movie is a form of hypnosis.

Everyone enters into the hypnotic state naturally several times a day especially as one wakes up in the morning or drifts off to sleep. This state of mind between sleep and wakefulness is the alpha state of mind. In the alpha state the door between the subconscious and the conscious mind is opened and it becomes easier to access memories and we become more suggestible. In hypnosis, the motivated individual is open to suggestions to make positive changes in their life.

Why Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is much faster than "talk" therapy. In many instances the underlying problem can be discovered and healed in one session. Clients leave feeling peaceful and relieved. Hypnosis just plain feels good!

What is the Subconscious Mind?

The subconscious is the part of the mind that stores all of our memories (even the ones we don't know we have), habits and beliefs. It is also the part of the mind that takes care of the numerous "automatic" bodily functions such as breathing, heartbeat, digestion, etc. The subconscious mind has no concept of time, no sense of humor and it does not know the difference between fact and fantasy. This is all very helpful in the hypnotic state.

Have you ever decided to stop drinking pop or eating candy, or smoking? The next thing you know, you drink pop or eat candy, or have a cigarette. These are subconscious habits - we do them without thinking. Most of our behaviors are subconscious. We have done them so many times that they become a part of who we are. It can be very difficult to change these habits with willpower alone. With hypnosis we go right to the root of the problem - the subconscious - and change the programming. Hypnosis is the fastest method of changing subconscious programming.
